Back After Baby: Day Fourteen - Slow(er) Can Be Fun

I ran the same course as the 'Hurricane Isabel run' today. It was beautiful out. The sun was brilliant and warm and the heat made me feel like a runner.

I pushed the baby in the stroller through the hilly 35 minute run(the same course that would typically take me roughly 24 minutes to complete...). My legs didn't move quickly, but I was out there and I enjoyed every second of it.

I love sharing my runs with my kids. The stroller slows me down enough to actually see all the life and beauty around me; the birds singing in place of my IPod, the steam escaping from the asphalt making me feel like I'm in a Rocky movie. It was fun, and with so many things in life needing to be serious and dark, fun is an important ingrediant to include in your day. Plus, each run I take him on teaches him about me and about the importance of fitness. My children will never be able to say they weren't exposed to a healthy lifestyle. It won't be through a sit down lesson, it will be through thousands and thousands of mini, daily exposures and conversations and memories. They will learn through recollection, and this is one of the greatest gifts I can give them.

Workout: 35 min run with the stroller (no small feat), approximately four miles
