Back After Baby: Day Sixteen - "Long Run" is Relative
As today's chores piled on I had somewhat given in that I wouldn't likely get a solid workout in, but then my friend coerced me (ok, all she did was ask, but there was coercion in her eyes I tell you) to run with her, so I did.
We did a trail run along a course I know like the back of my hand, only this time the course felt more like a jungle gym than a trail based on all the fallen limbs and full trees that Irene left behind. Lacking the pelvic stablizers of my pre-prego self, this run of 'hopping' over branches and risen streams looked more like a comedy of errors. The hills made me extra fatigued, which only made me trip more often. I had to laugh at myself even.
As I covered the course that I know so well, and had to coach myself through the final two miles I reminded myself of how hard running must be for most people. If what I was feeling was anything like what the average fitness runner feels, then good grief- they deserve a medal for their grueling efforts. I'm so glad I went for this run, logging much more than I had expected, and feeling accomplished for it, but my goodness I can't wait to feel like myself again.
Workout: 37 minute trail run. Hilly. This was my longest run so far. I should have stretched a lot more than I did. No doubt I'll pay for that later.
