Back After Baby: Push Through the Pain
Today's run was on a course I know like the back of my hand. I know it so well that I even know how many steps it takes to get from one set point to another. So doing this course acts like a barometer for me. Each check point gives me an idea of where I stand in my training. This is both a blessing and a curse.
I ran it with the baby in the jogging stroller, sticking with my mission to spend as much time as I can enjoying all of my life's loves at once. Pushing the stroller is a little extra tough at this point because everything is so weak. When I'm stronger it doesn't take quite as much extra effort. It was worth it though. It makes me feel like a better mom to bring him out there with me, being the example of the standard I set for my children.
So the run itself was ok. The first marker was only about 10 seconds slower than what I typically run when I'm in solid shape. It's just the warmup though. The second marker is about another 1.6 miles away. I did it in 12 minutes. My typical time to this point is 10:00-10:15. My best....9:11. Yea, I was book'n that day. Ah, to reminisce....
The whole run took about 44 minutes. That's the longest run by far that I've done up until this point post partum. My calves and the bones of my pelvis hurt like hell, and no doubt I'll pay for this ambitious endeavor for the next several days, but it was worth it. I'm so proud of this run. The clock wasn't very kind to me, but I plowed through anyway. That's a big hurdle I'm slowly overcoming, and today marked progress. Every day is progress.
