Super-Woman: Trying To Do It All Without Super Powers

Back After Baby: Ah, A Bathing Suit...

I went for my first swim today since being back 'in training'.  I've been working consistently with the weight lifting routine four days a week and I feel very strong so I was really interested to see how I felt in the water.  The verdict- even though my cardio system has a ways to go, the improved strength made a remarkable difference.  I did a few 25s and 50s and my times were only barely off what I was doing when I was swimming four days a week pre-pregnancy.  The longer intervals will take some time, but they weren't horrible. Back After Baby: '11 Weeks Back Into Training' Check In Run

I'm 17 weeks postpartum today.  Hm, at what point does one stop referring to themselves as postpartum anyway?  Is my mother still considered postpartum?  Technically speaking she is, but that seems a bit excessive on the time line.  Read more »

Back After Baby: Push Through the Pain

Today's run was on a course I know like the back of my hand.  I know it so well that I even know how many steps it takes to get from one set point to another. So doing this course acts like a barometer for me.  Each check point gives me an idea of where I stand in my training.  This is both a blessing and a curse.   Read more »

Back After Baby: Rise and Shine

Ok, so as you can imagine the every day updates got to be a bit difficult to maintain, so I have to shift gears and commit to what I can for a little while as far as writing goes.  If it's a choice between sitting down to write, or using that same time to get a workout in, then I gotta keep the momentum going and get the workout in.  So please forgive me... Back After Baby: Days 19 & 20

A few days off

Back After Baby: Day Eighteen - Ouch

Yea, so I've been a dumbass this last week, stretching very little- basically just an extra second or two on the steps to hit the calves, but nothing to really do me any good- and I'm paying for it with what feels like a bit of patella tendonitis in my right knee. Read more »

Back After Baby: Day Seventeen - Sometimes You Feel It, Sometimes You Don't

Ugh. It was hot. I was exhausted. I got through 20 minutes and called it a day. My calves feel like rocks and things kinda spin a little when I look at them... amazing what two sleepless nights due to the power going off and then conveniently coming back on at 2:30 am just in time to wake the sleeping baby will do to you.

Mission for tomorrow: get more sleep tonight and drink a hell of a lot more water tomorrow.

Workout: 20 minute grass run. Felt pretty awful early in.

Back After Baby: Day Sixteen - "Long Run" is Relative

As today's chores piled on I had somewhat given in that I wouldn't likely get a solid workout in, but then my friend coerced me (ok, all she did was ask, but there was coercion in her eyes I tell you) to run with her, so I did. Read more »

Back After Baby: Day Fifteen - You Make Due

Today I did a short run, then inserted some body strength work (various squats, leg lifts, etc) and then ran back-uphill to finish out a little over two miles (notice I didn't write 'downhill' before the preceeding, that's because it's unfortunately a lot easier to recall the uphill...). This workout was fun and entertaining. I'm pleased with my ability to see this workout as worth while. A relatively recent version of myself would have thought it wasn't worth the time, but it was and I'm glad I did it. Read more »

Back After Baby: Day Fourteen - Slow(er) Can Be Fun

I ran the same course as the 'Hurricane Isabel run' today. It was beautiful out. The sun was brilliant and warm and the heat made me feel like a runner.

I pushed the baby in the stroller through the hilly 35 minute run(the same course that would typically take me roughly 24 minutes to complete...). My legs didn't move quickly, but I was out there and I enjoyed every second of it. Read more »
